Silicone render in Essex, floated properly.

KJM Silicone Render Ltd specialises in the thin, through-coloured coat that has replaced painted sand and cement on so many Essex houses. Based in Wickford, working wherever the postcode makes sense.

A coat, not a paint job.

Silicone render is about 1.5mm of through-coloured material over a prepared base and mesh. The colour is mixed in. Rain beads and runs off. The wall can still breathe. You are not booking a repaint in three years.

Ask about your elevation

Against the older finishes

Sand and cement is hard, and it cracks when a house moves. Pebbledash hides a multitude and then becomes the thing you want to hide. Masonry paint looks sharp until the first damp patch shows through. Silicone sits in a different category: thin, flexible, coloured all the way through, and happy in the weather Essex actually gets — wind off the Thames, wet winters, the odd hot week that opens old cracks.

It is not magic. If the substrate is hollow, salty or still moving, a pretty top coat will not save it. The first conversation is about what is underneath.

The jobs it suits

  • Full elevations

Semis and detached houses that have had enough of blown render or dated dash.

  • Front only

The street face, when the sides and rear can wait. We say if that will look odd.

  • Extensions

New brick or block, meshed base, then a silicone that matches or deliberately contrasts the house.

  • Bays and details

Arrises, bellcasts and beads have to be straight. That is where a job looks expensive or cheap.

  • Colour changes

Through-colour means you choose once. We look at roof, windows and the house next door.

  • Repairs

Local failure first. A full re-render only if the rest of the wall is on its way out.

Shades people actually live with

Charts from the big silicone systems run into the hundreds. Most Essex streets settle on a handful. These are the references on this site — pick one, then confirm it against a real sample in your daylight.

  • Polar white silicone render on a typical Essex semi-detached house with a clay tile roof

    Polar white

A crisp through-colour white that stays looking painted-in, not painted-on.

  • Warm cream silicone render on a detached British house with a bay window

    Warm cream

Softer than brilliant white. Sits well against clay tiles and timber.

  • Stone grey silicone render on a Victorian terrace with white sash windows

    Stone grey

A quiet grey that respects older brick streets without pretending to be stone.

  • Light grey silicone render on a single-storey extension with black bifold doors

    Ash

Clean arrises around new openings. A good match for extensions and garden rooms.

  • Olive stone silicone render on a new-build house with white windows

    Olive stone

A deeper earth tone for people who do not want another white house on the street.

What a price depends on

KJM does not publish a rate per square metre, because a number without the wall is fiction. UK guides often talk about silicone somewhere around the £60–£100 per square metre mark, supply and apply, before scaffold, repairs or new sills. A small terrace front and a detached house are not the same job.

  • Area of wall, and how much of it is cut up by windows and bays.
  • What is there now: paint, dash, failed render, bare block.
  • Access. Scaffold changes the programme more than the trowel does.
  • Beads, oversills, and whether windows need care around the reveals.
  • Colour. A standard chart shade is simpler than a one-off mix.

Send photos and the postcode. If it is not a job for this company, you will get a straight no rather than a vague maybe.
